"BACKSTREET'S BACK, ALRIGHT!!!!!

IT'S FINALLY HERE!!!!!!!!

After almost 4 months doing all our jobs outside 3J/Runner Up's gets a new garage. This must of been the longest summer ever since we had no quick access to our garage. Since the garage was badly lit and we couldnt open the garage door manually, all of our tools were just scattered every where. As soon as the new door was installed we got to work in making our Kingdom clean again. Can't wait for our next job!!!!!!!!!

A Breath Of Fresh Air

Were Back! Its been a long time since we updated the blog so we'll start with fixing Gatsby's asthma problems.

Due to Nissan's decision to design the looks of their cars before picking a motor to go along with it, Gatsby and all G35/350z/FX35's are born with air starvation to cylinders #5 and #6. Today were gonna cure Gatsby's breathing problems by installing Motordyne's 5/16 Iso Thermal Plenum spacer, Stock 350z intake tube (ztube) and JWT's Popcharger.

Kinda expensive to fix what Nissan should of thought about before mass production, but never the less it must be done. We would like to thank Rick Hall at West Covina Nissan and Ruben at The Nismo Shop for hooking it up!!

Gatsby before being put to sleep (removing battery)
Parts laid out, lets begin!

Motordyne's iso thermal plenum kit raises the stock plenum .3 inches to provide a larger amount of volume inside the plenum, thus curing the starvation in cylinders 5 and 6
The Bo' starts off by removing the stock intake system
To help cure the air starvation Nissan developed their own Power Duct intake system  (shown here), which is a great improvement but still suffers from air starvation
Now to remove the plenums bolts to get access to the upper plenum collector
This is where the Spacer will be installed, but first we need access to the lower plenum collector. Since there was a hard to reach coolant line behind the plenum we deployed our patent plenum holder hook.
Filthy plenum due to oil air blow back
Nothing a little elbow grease can fix
Motordyne's aramid intake manifold gasket is installed first to help further cooling
But first the upper plenum must be removed for further cleaning
Air blow back should be cleaned.... again
All clean
Now to let let the gasket absorb motor oil to allow it to seal uneven gaps around the manifold. This can be done by adding 2 caps of any type of motor oil in the provided packaging bag and squish.
With the gasket installed, time to put back the upper plenum, bolts must be torqued to first 40 inch pounds then 80 inch pounds and finally 100 inch pounds in an outward sequence to provide the proper seal.
Internal plenum spacer installed
Finally the star of this install arrives, 5/16 plenum spacer.
Crazy how just a gasket and achieve such wonderful results
Motordyne also provided their Coolant Control Valve which lets the user control if you want the ambient air temp. to cool the plenum housing or the engine stock cooling system. Just snip 2 inches from the plenum coolant line and slide right in.
Now to install JWT's headshield
Were not gonna lie..... assembling this damn heatshield was hardest install for today....seriously
Popcharger will be sitting in here
This sucker must of weighed close to 5 pounds
Inside the Popcharger
Popcharger will be connected to a Stock 350z intake tube which has a wider diameter air flow compared to the stock G35s and doesn't have resonators to muffle the sound.
MAF sensor Cleaned and Popcharger attached to Z tube

Intake installed
Carb sticker installed
All done

Final thoughts:
Iso thermal Plenum Spacer

After installing Motordyne's Plenum spacer throttle response sharped dramatically, just depressing the throttle a few millimeters will set the cars coasting at 40mph in no time. The spacer also added a deeper plenum sound through out the power band. Now I see why its a community favorite mod and why Tony at Motordyne Dyno guaranties results up to 14 HP.

JWT popcharger:
All i have to say is wow, this instake is loud as hell. 6 hp gain is probably doubtful but it sure tries to convince you when you get past 4.5 rpm. Great product
